William Discala Jr. Founder & President of Karakroum Inc. Bill was born in Richmond , Staten Island in 1963. His interest in horses began when he was seven years old and started walking ponies at a stable. An avid rider, he has competed in jumping in Ireland , as well as barrel racing and trail riding. After graduating from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in marketing, Bill moved back to New York and began a career on Wall Street. One of the industry's leading young financial advisors, he was a Vice President at Shearson Lehman Brothers at the young age of 27. He also held executive positions as a broker at Paine Webber and Merrill Lynch. While there, one of Bill's clients sold him a mare. A couple of horse enthusiasts confirmed that it was a good buy and Bill decided to breed her. In 1994, Bill founded Karakorum Farms to breed Thoroughbreds, and left Merrill Lynch to run Karakorum as a racing stable full time in 1996. With Karakorum , Bill's vision is to bring Thoroughbred ownership to the average racing fan, the person who would not otherwise have the means or knowledge to compete with the sport's wealthier Thoroughbred owners.

Josh Bauman Director of Sales Born in Cleveland , Ohio in 1950, Josh spent most of his childhood in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, where his parents ran a music and arts summer camp, Indian Hill. As a child, he experienced his first horse race at the Great Barrington Fair. And while other kids were enthralled with the rides and cotton candy, the racing and betting fascinated Josh more. It was in 1974, while attending the Berklee College of Music in Boston, that a friend invited him to come with him to Suffolk Downs. That was it – he was hooked on the sport. After a brief career as a guitarist, singer and arranger for various bands, Josh came back to New York where he eventually went into sales. Josh joined Karakorum in 2000, applying his 22 years of business experience to the sport he loves. In addition to sales, he is responsible for training new sales people, advertising, networking with industry people, and developing venues to attract new Thoroughbred horseracing fans.
